**POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT**

Reserve Firefighter

Open for Applications June 16, 2008 through

The Fort Lupton Fire Protection District is accepting applications for the position of RESERVE FIREFIGHTER. The position is considered volunteer and there is no pay for this position although other benefits are offered. The RESERVE FIREFIGHTER is responsible for all aspects of responding to calls for service, protection of life and property through prevention and extinguishment of fires, and providing specialized rescue.  The RESERVE FIREFIGHTER is also expected to perform basic life support emergency medical services until advanced life support units arrive on scene. Non-emergency duties may include, but not be limited to, maintenance, fire prevention, inspections, pre-fire planning, and other community support services. The RESERVE FIREFIGHTER also will be responsible for the general cleanliness and upkeep of facilities, grounds, equipment and other District property.   

 

Applicants must complete an application process that includes oral communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving, and oral board interview. The final step will include an interview with the Fire Chief. A conditional offer will be made and the candidate must successfully complete of a background check, physical examination, and urine screen. The Fort Lupton Fire Protection District provides all training, equipment, and uniforms required for the position. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

 

  1. Experience working as a volunteer firefighter or in a combination volunteer/career Fire Department preferred but not required.
  2. Successfully complete a physical examination and urine screen after a conditional offer of membership.
  3. Successfully pass a background investigation.
  4. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment to this position.
  5. Demographic and operational knowledge of the Fire District.
  6. Live within a 1-hour driving time, under normal conditions, to Station 1.
  7. Willing to complete 36 hours of shift time at the Station per month.

 

The Reserve Firefighter shall possess and maintain the following:

 

  1. Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
  2. High School Diploma or GED.
  3. Colorado State Firefighter I Certification within one-year of completion of probationary period.
  4. Certificate of completion of First Responder Course, EMT-B National Registry/State Certification or higher preferred, within two years of completion of probationary period.
  5. Complete in house driving and pump operations course on an annual basis.
  6. Complete 36 hours of departmentally sponsored training on a calendar yearly basis.
  7. Complete 36 hours of Station Shift Time on a monthly basis.
  8. Attend 12 of 24 department business meetings.
  9. Maintain valid CPR card.

 

** The fire academy start date will be based upon the needs of the agency. It is scheduled for Monday or Wednesday nights from 6 PM to 10 PM and on Saturdays from 8 AM to 5 PM. Some Sundays may also be required.

 

** This applies if you do not possess the Firefighter I Certification. The dates of the academy are subject to change. You do not need to possess certifications to apply.

Fort Lupton Fire Protection District Requirements for Reserve Firefighter

 

  1. Attend 13 out of 24 business meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month.
  2. Complete 36 hours of training your 1st year and a minimum of 24 hours each calendar year after that. Training is offered on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Other trainings are also offered throughout the year.
  3. In order to qualify for a pension year you must complete 36 hours of training in a calendar year.
  4. Possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  5. Complete a minimum 36 hours of shift duty at a Ft. Lupton Fire Station on a monthly basis. You may complete no more than three overnight shifts in a 7-day week. A minimum of one 12-hour shift must be completed and the remainder can be broken down into no less than 4-hour blocks. A meal allowance of $7.00 per person will be provided to for those shifting during a day or evening shift.
  6. Maintain a valid CPR card.
  7. Successfully complete annual in house driver and pump operator course.
  8. Complete a Firefighter I Academy if not certified at this level.
  9. Enroll in and complete at a minimum of a First Responder Course within two years of completion of the first year probationary period. If not certified at this level or higher.
  10. Reside within a 1-hour drive time, under normal conditions to Station 1.
